Harley Rallies Around The Country

Got some vacation time coming up? You should think about attending Harley rallies around the country. These rallies are great places to meet other riders and have a blast partying at the same time. Although there are Harley rallies somewhere around the country nearly every day of the year, there are some Harley rallies that are so famous that you just have to attend one to see what they’re like.

Probably the best attended Harley rallies around the country are the “Bike Weeks” that are held at various cities and usually in the summer. The granddaddy of all bike weeks is probably Daytona Bike Week. It’s one of those Harley rallies that you can’t afford to miss.

Usually held during the first week of March, nearly 500,000 bikers swoop down on this Florida city and the party begins. While most people are well-behaved, there is a fair share of drug and alcohol arrests and plenty of fights to go around. The cops at Daytona recently started cracking down on public nudity because a lot of Biker chicks liked to parade around topless on their “Daddy’s” Harley. While there are still many Harley rallies around the country where bras and panties are optional, you don’t see it so much at Daytona.

New Hampshire’s Laconia Bike Rally is another main event. When it comes to Harley rallies around the country, Laconia has the distinction of being the longest running. The first Laconia rally was held 82 years ago and it keeps on getting bigger. The event is usually held in June and draw upwards of 300,000 bikers.

The Myrtle Beach Bike Rally is 65 years old, and the 1940 Harleys were just coming out when the first one was held. The population of Myrtle Beach was around 1,600 when the first 300 bikers arrived. Today Myrtle Beach is a thriving resort community and 200,000 plus bikers drop in once per year for an old-fashioned biker’s party.

Not all Harley rallies around the country feature wine (beer), women and song. Many church groups hold Harley rallies as well as charitable groups that run scavenger hunts where bikers travel hundreds of miles to locate specific places and things. Each rider pays an entry fee. The winner gets a portion of the total fees with the balance going to charity. Now I won’t say that some beer doesn’t get drunk during these events, but the main focus is on charity and not on tearing up the town.

A lot of Harley dealerships also arrange Harley rallies around the country. These types of rallies often feature races, motorcycle rodeos, and motorcycle “beauty shows” where bikes are judged for their appearance and customizations. There’s usually plenty of food and fun for everyone and very little serious misbehaving.

If you’re thinking about attending any of the hundreds of Harley rallies around the country, check out the reputation of the particular event before you show up. If it sounds too rowdy, you can probably expect that it will be twice as rowdy when you actually get there. If you’re interested in Harley fellowship with local riders, your Harley dealer-sponsored rallies are your best choice.
